The session of the Bloomfield Presbyterian Church on the Green has selected Connolly and Hickey Historical Architects to begin construction work in the spring 2011 and to complete repairs to the sanctuary so we may return to uninterrupted usage later next year. During this winter season the firm will be in the sanctuary developing plans to engineer this work. After much thoughtful discussion and prayer, the session (with one abstention) unanimously requested the congregation meet in the Parish House throughout the duration of this project. The pros and cons and costs of putting up and taking down netting in the sanctuary to return this winter for a few months at $1000/per Sunday seemed excessive and counterproductive to good stewardship planning for the bigger repair project where funds are required. The sanctuary will not be available for use until the work is completed.
Buildings are living entities that, like our bodies, can require some major repairs periodically. It has been more than 25 years since the congregation has addressed major work on the structural integrity of the ceiling, trusses, and roof--an interrelated support system. The work we are undertaking furthers our vision to use the sanctuary for worship and ministry for many decades ahead.
The 34th Annual Church World Service (CWS) CROP WALK took place on Sunday, October 17. Our team of eight walkers collected a total of $1,339 towards helping those in need to overcome poverty. Thank you to all who participated, walkers as well as sponsors. Those who walked included Marcus Battaglia, Abigail Brigman, Emily Cornell, Bill Dalzell, Sherryl Lou Daly, Lulu Bernandez-Hicks, Susan Turnbull and Nora Watson.
December 10 - 6:30 p.m. - in the Parish House. Mark your calendar and plan to join us for the next Friday Night Dinner. The Dalzell and Maciag Families will prepare the meal and Carol Baldessari, our Family/Children’s Choir Director, will lead a Christmas carol sing-long. Tickets are $8.00 and will be sold following morning worship on Sundays, November 28 and December 5. Looking forward to seeing you at dinner and to sharing the Christmas Spirit.
Our next book club meeting will be on Monday, December 13. We will meet at 7:30 P.M. in the church parlor. We will be discussing chapter 4 of “The Gospel-Driven Life: Being Good News People in a Bad News World” by Michael Horton. Everyone is invited so bring a friend. For more information or to get your own copy of the book, please call the church office at 973-743-1796 or email info@bpcog.org.
The children, their parents, and any other interested adults are invited for community caroling after church for about an hour. We will visit the boarding house next door (Park View) and the nursing home a block away on Park Street (Park Manor). We can walk to both sites from the church to bring Christmas cheer. Sunday, December 19, after worship.
