Joint Summer Worship with Park United Methodist ChurchContinuing a tradition that dates back at least to the 1890s, this summer the Bloomfield Presbyterian Church on the Green will again be worshiping with our friends at Park United Methodist Church. Last summer's format was so successful we hope to repeat it this year. On June 29 we worshiped together outdoors on the Bloomfield Green in front of the church. We will worship together for the four weeks of July at Park Methodist, with the pulpit filled with some familiar faces from Pulpit Supply of Newark Presbytery. During the next four weeks in August, we will worship together at Church on the Green, with Park Methodist’s pastor Wayne Plumstead preaching. All services will begin at 10 AM. We will celebrate communion on July 6 and August 3. Music will be provided by a combined choir made up of members from both congregations – whoever shows up at 9:30 AM for rehearsal. Lay readers, child care, ushers, organ/piano music, and fellowship time afterwards will be provided by the host congregation, while the visiting congregation will provide the preaching pastor and help with greeting. There will be opportunities for people from both congregations to participate in these joint services. An offering will be taken at each service: pledge envelopes will be returned to the giver’s home church; undesignated amounts will be donated to a mission supported by both of our congregations. Please join us during the summer to worship with our neighbors on the green. Here is the full summer schedule. All services begin at 10 AM (choir rehearsal at 9:30 AM).

A Special Event on the Atonement October 4
Can you feel the excitement growing as we get closer to October 4, 2008? Yes, we are getting ever closer to our special event on the atonement. Our speaker will be Rev. Rick Phillips, Senior Pastor at Second Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Greenville, SC, author of many Christian books, and a frequent speaker at conferences. There will also be food (snacks and lunch) and music. If all goes well, this will be the first time our renovated organ will be heard in public. And all of it will be free (we will take a free will offering to defray the lunch costs). For more information, watch this space or send e-mail to atonement@bpcog.org.
